Catastrophe! I too just had to switch files over between and old and new hard drive, only to find out that the old hard drive was not reading each file correctly! So I basically had to manually copy each file/folder over. Computer problems are the worst. Hang in there. |

A few shows back you talked about how your computer is like an ant hill (I think?). You just keep building and adding to it and adding to it. I think about this everytime I install new software. I recently got a new laptop and had transfer everything over...........what a pain. The thoughts of losing it all would make me cry. My condolences to your ipod.
Hey Adam Curry is giving away a video ipod. Listen to the July 25 show for details.
Love the show. |

Our server at work has comitted ritual suicide and we have been trying to fix it for a week--potentially losing lots of data should it fail completely. Sucks gloriously. |

In a nerds world data loss is like being slapped by Liza Minnelli and telling the press about it. Oh, wait.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will send them back to the universe for Ben and his maladjusted server. |

What about SpinRite? I've never used it, but listening to the SecurityNow podcast (hardly unbiased), it sounds like it can be a miracle worker for hard drive recovery.
Testimonials at http://spinrite.info
(I'm completely unaffiliated, mostly trying to help and curious if it really works) |

Oops, a little late, but hopefully you already know that when your iPod fails to respond to hold down the select button and Menu button at the same time for 5 seconds or so until the iPod reboots. (If nothing happens plug it into the dock for 10 minutes and try again while it's in the dock.) |

Thanks Craig. I did get it to come back to life but only after 4 days simply by pressing the center button. It wouldn't power up, charge or blink at me. But now I have another tool to jump start it if this happens again, thx. |
