I had the exact same problem, except mine was just quickcam.exe.
I'm running Vista Business x64, and was exasperated. I tried to install a new TB on top of the old one and this just broke the current install without fixing the issue.
If it wasn't for this page, I would have been stuck.

This tip is useful. stupid logictech Quickcam 10.0 interfaces with thunderbird mozmapi32.dll. Go figure why quickcam needs to lock that dll. It must be a bug.

Just thought I'd add some input for those of you still bewildered:
I closed anything Logitech (and several other programs), but was still met with the same conundrum. I read elsewhere that removing the mozmapi32.dll file from the the Thunderbird folder would work--and lo and behold! It did! Or at it has so far.

Thunderbird had downloaded an update without my knowledge, then asked me if I would like to install it now. I didn't think much of it, and just clicked yes. It was after this that it was just stuck in a continuous cycle of error codes and frustration.
Lo-and-behold, Quickcam10.exe is the culprit. Typical Logitech, they make great products, but their software just leads to frustration.
Thank you, Google. And thank you, Kris.

Just sending more love your way ... I ran into the same problem just now when Thunderbird tried to autoupdate itself. Finally, after deleting Thunderbird and trying to do a clean reinstall, Windows kicked up the mozmapi error message, which led me here.
