Nominate us for an award! TONIGHT (July 15th) ONLY!

Hey everyone, with such a crazy week going on I forgot to mention that the Podcast Awards nomination phase was this week. The problem is that it ends tonight at midnight in some time zone . . . which I don't know.

If you see this on July 15th, 2006 head to the Podast Awards nomination page and give us a nod. They have a ton of categories and you can only nominate a podcast for one category. Oooh, there are so many to choose from like People's Choice, Best Produced, Comedy and General. Let your heart guide you.

If you do get a chance to nominate us for something drop us a line once your done. That way I can see who else spends their Saturday nights online ;-).

Auralex foam thingies make it quieter

A few weeks ago I went into Sam Ash for a mic stand and left with some much needed Auralex acoustic studiofoam. I started a new podcast with some buddies and when I listened back to the audio I was less than impressed. I am used to hearing just Betsy and I and the room holds our voices well. Add 4 other dudes and myself and you have a cacophony riveling a Harley reving up in the belly of an ocean liner.Maybe it isn't that bad but to an audio nerd it was painful.

The kit I picked up was the Auralex D36-DST Roominators kit. Their factory gnomes can pack a lot of 12" x 12" foam pieces into a box. I finally installed the kit last night and it is pretty awsome. I can't say unbelievable becasue it is doing what it is supposed to do, remove "boomy" sounds, reflections and additional absorption.

The true test will be recording Monday's Croncast with the blocks in place.

Update: You can listen to the first show with the Auralex studiofoam now.

Below are some shots of the setup.

This pattern I lifted from a design on their site and added the burgundy pieces.

I broke down and thought that it was time to add Betsy's eBay information. You can view all of her stuff for sale at any given time on this page.

Even cooler, eBay now offers and RSS feed for all of a sellers items. So this is the RSS feed for thesmithmall.

Podcast Academy 4 - I'll be speaking

Podcast Academy 4, "Podcasting and Video for the Professional at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo" was announced earlier today. It is being held the Thursday before the Podcast and Portable Media Expo begins, September 28, 2006.

I have the great fortune of being one of the instructors for this event. I will be presenting in a morning session on podcasting integration. The title of for my session is "Successful Web Design for Podcasting".

The goal of this session is to have attendees take away an understadning of the essential ingredients that go into a successful podcasting website. We'll discuss different types of podcasting websites, their ease of use or lack thereof, interactive elements, graphic treatments and campaign readiness.

Say what? Site design is often overlooked as many businesses begin the task of communicating with internal departments, external agencies and consultants after they have chosen to produce a podcast. The website is an afterthought, when it should be considered from the very beginning of the initiative.

I would recommend that if you are the individual chosen to become your company's resident expert in all things podcasting that you consider attending this event. There will be plenty to learn about audio podcasting and its sibling video podcasting from experts like:

Michael Geoghegan (Willinick Productions)
Greg Cangialosi (Blue Sky Factory)
Craig Syverson (gruntmedia)
Noah Bonnett and Rachel Smith (88SLIDE)
Tim Street (French Maid TV)
Alex Lindsay ( MacBreak).

Registration is now open.

As you learned on yesterday's show, Slowsky has returned to us . . . new vinyl and all. Look at the way that water just beads off of Betsy's beast.

Lo the sweet, sweet vinyl.

I couldn't help but throw this Gigi shot in from this morning. This is her 6 a.m. stretch.
