If you get picked at random and pay the overnight shipping. Which according to FedEx is about $40 for 10:30 a.m. deliver tomorrow.

I am a huge Black Keys fan and haven't seen them live since 2006. I thought Las Vegas would be the end to that drought. Not the case.

However, it can be the start of something awesome for you or another great set of memories from a stand out rock band.

I've got TWO General Admission tickets to the Saturday, February 19th sold out show at the Chelsea in the Cosmopolitan Hotel of Las Vegas.

Here's how I'm going to do this since I waited to the last minute because I thought I could pull this out:

A. Leave a comment on this post with your facebook page, twitter handle or an email with '[at]' instead of an '@' (helping to avoid the spam) so that i can contact you if you win.

B. At 3:00 EST today I will pick one commenter at random. You've got 10 minutes to get back to me before I pick someone else, since I need to send these out as soon as possible to get them to someone.

C. Drop the $40 for the shipping in my PayPal and I'll head to FedEx.

This isn't a scam or anything weird.

I'm a huge fan and thought I could pull it out. I tried to take my 5 year old with me to Central Park when the Keys played there but it was sold out. We sat outside and listened for about an hour. She's also loves the Keys, well it makes up about 850f her music listening in my presence, so of course she does. She was pissed we couldn't get in. Don't let this happen to you ;).

With my stereotypically schizophrenic stats checking, I hadn't looked at the site in nearly a year. Today, it looks much better and seems to have more new features that are actually useful. Though, it does seem a bit cluttered.

I was hunting for a mysterious odor in the manpit today when Betsy sent me into the storage area and I found two great pieces of software that I forgot to reinstall after my computer crashed six months ago. Of course, I didn't locate the odor but that's good it didn't come from storage. I blame the dog.

Since I didn't really miss either program I thought that somebody else might have better use for them making music for the masses.

The first is Yellow Tools Candy is an unbelievably awesome saxophone virtual instrument. It is the only one that I have ever used that sounded like the real thing. The bonus with this software are the baritone saxes, not other sax synth has them.

Now that I am writing this I am starting to regret letting them go. Oh well, maybe I can make enough money to get a real goatee trim!

Apple TV, don't go Factory, go Restore

Had some problems with my Apple TV today causing iTunes 7.5 and 7.4.3 to freeze. The Apple TV would still connect the internet fine and stream movie previews but not load a not of music or minute of the Tom Green Show.

I tried everything - reboots, uninstalls, reinstalls, reboot Apple TV, check Apple support message boards and a little jig with some horse hair and eye of newt. Nothing.

Solution:

1) Throw all hope to the wind and surmise that your Apple TV is broken
2) As a final resort go to Settings -> Restore defaults -> Restore(will save your network settings like SSID and WEP key)
3) Return to Sources and choose your iTunes library

I have no clue what caused it or why this fixed the problem. My hope is that if someone finds this from a search that it night solve your problem too.

The winner for my attention tonight was 20+ minutes was the A&R Channel, ARC, buried deep in the Comcast On Demand menu system.

Don't get me wrong here people, I am lucky to have gotten out alive to write this.

What sits in the bowels of ON Demand is usually bite sized bits of crap buried five menus deep under a layer of mediocre software and a UI so thick that I loathe entering into it. It's like content quicksand.

Tonight, however, I survived and found something so awesome and worthy that I thought it was time to shout about it. In the Music section of ON Demand there was a button, link, what have you, that listed the A&R Channel. I pressed OK to select it (and so should you) and then paged to the second menu for Keen on Media. Clicked it. Then read the info on ARC: Andrew Keen (yes, that Andrew Keen) interviews Ken Hertz, a dude who makes a living as music attorney.

I guess the reason that I am so excited about this is that I watched a show that looked like it was a podcast. It looked like it came from the internet. It looked like it was playing from that Apple device that puts moving pictures on my TV set. And not to be left out . . . the content was niche. When was the last time you watched something on television and a guest said Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 in succession? Never.

There sitting in front of me were the guys from the picture above, a media attorney and Mr. Cult of the Amateur, participating in the future of television; the marriage of IPTV, podcasts, internet shows, our television sets and the traditional distribution of cable and satellite programming.

So who's making it happen?

From what I can tell from quick research it appears to be Seth Shapiro or his company New Amsterdam Media. Does anybody know for sure?

Heading to the land of John Elway Dodge

Yes, off to Colorado for work two weeks before vacation was set to begin. The car will be here in less than an hour and I have to pack enough stuff to last me three weeks on the road. Solution: Let Betsy loose and have her ship me my stuff instead of trust that the United will get it all there.

Every time that I travel with all of my nerd gear all I can think about is how last September in one of my checked bags I had a 30 gb video iPod when I entered LAX and when I arrived in Chicago it had disappeared. It was replaced with an awesome non-music playing, no screen having scrap of paper notifying me that TSA had taken the liberty to search my bag. No big deal. However, what was missing was the paper notification that they swiped my iPod.

Anyway, what all of this means is that last night we knocked out four shows for the time that I'll be gone. The shows are a shorter than normal at around eighteen minutes in length. On Friday, July 20th the show will be the Q & A from the live show.

Forget the iPhone, The Flaming Lips iTunes original is boss

Who needs an iPhone when you've got great music and commentary? Apple released, or the record company did, an iTunes Original for The Flaming Lips.

I fell in love with their music when At War With the Mystics came out and have been earnestly combing through their catalog on iTunes. The early stuff is great but doesn't have the same vibe that Mystics has.

The track I'll be jamming on for the 4th and the next few days is a noisy version of Free Radicals.

Croncast goes instrumental

Mike asked for a longer version of the intro last week after a drive with his daughter where she asked for the "Betsy song" and all he had was about 10 seconds to play over and over.

I will now oblige that request in two forms:

1) The intro music uncut - 2:45

2) A remix of the first, looped end to end for a blistering 32 minute sensation of waiting for my voice to break in at any time

I wouldn't give number two a whirl if you are operating heavy machinery or driving to any place that might require you to be alive upon arrival. That is, of course, unless you are driving with a child who really wants to hear the music and you can satiate them with the instrumental version of Croncast.
