what about tshirts? I can't imagine anyone wanting their very own officially signed Kris puffy shirt (no offense), but I might wear a cleverly designed croncast t-shirt!
cafepress is cheap and crappy...but *cough* I myself use Spreadshirt.com and have sold a t-shirt or so from my own store *cough*
sorry, shameless promotion. but it could work! a little!
you could also purchase advertising links on super popular blogs - like Dooce.com. get your listenership up and then you can put money making ads on your site.
just don't forget us little people when you're making Dooce money, OK?

VERY "this american life" of you. TAL did something similar with an all night diner that they replayed a few weeks ago.

I see EvilScienceChicks shirt store and raise my fundraising efforts for my daughter, Margaret's spinal surgery at http://www.cafepress.com/miraclesform.
My two year old is having spinal surgery - can't get anymore life is show prep than that.
I really NEED a life is show prep shirt -- check out cafepress.

Was I the only one thrown off by the "afterglow mop" ref?
I don't know why but I kept thinking of mop and glow. It took me a couple of beats to realize what Betsy was talking about.
Now I am convinced that Betsy does hold back.

I like the T-shirt idea.
Why don't you have people
send in designs. The person with the best gets a free shirt or something. Vote on it or somthing...
A "fund drive" would be OK as well.

I'm digging on the t-shirt idea also and need to think on it a bit.
But the "fund drive" was in process when your message dropped in! Serendipity.
So to kick it off before we roll it out on Monday's show you can "tip us" on any page at here at the site.
After all the ruminating on the topic we are going to attempt an annual or bi-annual "tip time".

Charging for podcasts...I know its going to happen sooner or later, don't do it!!! Look how cheap Oprah is, why doesnt she have a free program on the radio or a podcast..I am not paying 15 bucks a month to hear her. How much money does a person need?? I would buy a t-shirt to support your show.Hmmm, maybe we should hit up Oprah for some funds!!!

Since we're talking about "This American Life" how about selling CD compilations - a best of sort of thing? I'd pay for a "newbie recap" compilation CD.

I almost forgot. Durring a road trip this weekend I saw a bonafide Goodwill store and felt like when I first saw the walk of stars in LA. Somehow I couldn't explain my excitement to the others in the car. In MA we call it Goodwill but it's usually a generic version. Can you have a generic Goodwill store?

Raising kids to be successful is hard. Especialy when the world is harsh outside our bubble of saftey. But when do you start telling them the truth about the world?
1. Everything is negotiable.
2. Complete honesty is a liability.
3. The person with the best argument wins.
