two lanes wide, the names

the crowd got hushed quite a bit when they saw this banner coming down the street when they realized what it was.

the banner has the names of every soldier killed to date in the current iraq war. the stunning part is that the names are written very small.

it had a great impact. people were commenting about how big the banner was.

no one clapped when this one went by.

i got choked up and am again typing this up.

via flickr: i've failed at putting the experience into words but incredible does sum it up well. when i hopped out into the street to get some photos it became clear that how wide it really was. i'm going to upload the entire series of them in a few and will put them in here.

Very sad. The banner for the wounded soldiers would need to be well over 10x bigger.
