Great to be part of the live audience for this one! Best lines of the show:
Betsy, regarding Ontario, CA: "It's like an hour from beautiful."
Betsy, regarding holding your own against a stripper: "So what do you bring to the table? Not a whole bunch of ones, that's for sure."

What is the big deal between D&D and Croncast. I am a fan of both. I think D&D is a little more immature then Croncast, but I find both shows enjoyable. I have listen to every show and I don't know the story,,, did I miss something?

LOL...Betsy did Kris just say "Any city is safe in general" this from the guy who would not get out of the car in Philly until they parked closer to the party, or called you from the bathroom after he saw the shotgun by the front door?
Just giving you hard time Kris you know we love you.

I have been listening for a long time, but the D&D lawsuit threat is news to me. Is this discussed in a previous episode, if not, please give us the background.

Re: video podcasting -
I know everybody is looking at video as the "next step", but I'm not a fan of the concept. Let me speak as a voracious podcast consumer - I don't want video because if I have to watch video, I have to give it my full attention, and I don't have that much attention to give. I listen to something like 40 (yes, forty) podcasts. How? Because I listen all day at work, I listen in the car, I listen when I mow the lawn, but I don't stop what I'm doing to listen to any of them. How much TV do I watch in a week? Probably about 1-2 hours. I can't spare the time to watch TV.
... did I mention the twins?

I listened to D & D about 3 or more years ago. they have their audience. I have found my tastes in shows to have evolved in the direction your show is going.......

On the video podcast level. I never see myself watching this on a "regular" basis. The amount of video media out their dvd, cable, etc is incredible. please focus on audio.

I see a lot of people turning to video just for the sake of using video. If it is just a camera pointed at a talking head, what is the point?

it was me. I admit it. I was the person who needed Friday's show. I don't know if I ever really have looked for your show before, but I kept hitting 'check' on the itunes.
Why did I need it? Let's just say that 2 months ago I had a cold, which has now turned into either asthma or a blood clot.
I never watch video podcasts, would make me sick during commute.

I contribute to an internet radio network and the podcast world. We also include webcam streaming to spread are appearance around to as many mediums as we can. So the video is normally just a talking head, but fun none the less.

HaHa about Crenshaw.
I once had to scrounge up a dinner of hot dogs and chips for three cub scouts and three adults at a generic convenience store with bullet proof glass defending the register in the outskirts of the city of Philadelphia.
Luckily, the den mother was a nurse so I felt somewhat assured that if anything happened -- we'd be prepared to stitch it up with dental floss.
But everyone just looked at us weird and probably enjoyed watching our nervousness veiled in a false layer of nonchalance.
I mean really, what were we expecting? It's not like we had an iPhone or Starter jackets on us.

i can break down the d and d thing like this. hopefully, pretty quick.
there is no rivalry.
what betsy has been referring to beyond seeing them at the expo was something that happened in early 2005, pre-podshow.
we were friendly with them and were told that they had big news coming about their first sponsor. cool.
later that week they even alluded it on their own show.
the following monday i said on croncast that they had "big news" coming and that it was great they were going to get paid. made no mention of what it was.
betsy's follow up was to ask, "who would advertise on their show? the audience is made up of drunken 15 year olds." this was made in reference to a single d and d episode where they read an email from a kid in england that betsy had listened to at that time.
promptly, the next day after i released the show i got an email from a d and d representative and show regular at the time, moongirl. did i mention that i shared and office with her dad? he sat 4 feet behind me.
the email was a rambling mess requesting that immediately remove the portion of the show where i said they had something big coming and betsy's comment. the email also requested that we apologize to the offended party, dawn and drew or face them speaking with an attorney to take action.
at first i freaked because i wasn't sure of what we had said. then i went back and listened and was relieved. i didn't give away that the big sponsor was a condom company and tied betsy's comment back to the aforementioned episode of d and d from.
so, i didn't cut the piece and sent back a reply telling them that i wouldn't and i didn't feel an apology was in order. we didn't give it away and betsy didn't say anything that they hadn't already in their own words.
thus our last interaction with d and d in 2005. which of course was rekindled when betsy saw them in california last week.
we did talk about it on a show or two at the time but probably not in such detail.
anyway, that is the story. no beef. no rivalry. just a sour taste.

I think I'm with the majority who have commented so far. There's no need for video. The program works great in an audio format. I fear I would have to drop the show if I had to commit to watching it, which is a shame since Croncast is my favorite of the dozen or so podacasts I listen to. What would we see anyway - the roving garage sale reporter?
