this hulking mcmansion sits on a public cul de sac that is part of a 4 way intersection of two semi-busy thoroughfares.
the folks that are building this have some signs on the right to the effect of, "Respect our privacy, please."
This monument to ostentatiousness could benefit from a sign that reads, "Respect our privacy, plebes."

via flickr: The first place I lived after I moved out of my parent's house was right next to the Salem Willows, a seaside park with arcades and a merry-go-round, fried dough, pizza...that kind of stuff. It had no yard; the kitchen window was right on the sidewalk leading to the Willows. If you didn't close the shutters, everyone walking by (and there was a lot of foot traffic) would look in the window as they walked by. I couldn't blame them, but it sucked.
I love how that big, hulking mansion has a plastic mailbox in a bucket. The second floor balcony is cool, but I can't imagine using it when the view is a 4-way intersection.

via flickr: this house is the epitome of new money. yes, i could not afford to build a house like this. but if i did have the money, sure, maybe.
there are lots of houses like this in naperville and lisle but most are out of the way and mildly secluded. these folks decided to build on the entire lot at the back of a highly visible cul de sac.
the price on this house is mind-numbing i am sure and part of the reason that people are bothering them. but to ask for privacy after putting this castle on a cul de sac with the ridiculous chimneys is a bit like yelling fire in a crowded theater and then wondering why everyone is running for the doors.

Kris, Why the fascination with big houses? Every city has them, maybe your listeners live in one!! :)
