It turns out that in cases of needing to deliver most physical goods a shipping company like FedEx is the right choice. Try shipping tube socks to Timmy at camp through your hard drive or uploading a lobster to a server for download later.
The story that motivated this post came through a DVD email list that I belong to and goes like this:
1) FedEx loses a DVD needed for a presentation in Munich
2) DVD author posts to the list looking for someone in Munich to burn another DVD for him
3) The next morning a nice German citizen on the list downloads stuff to burn to DVD and hand delivers it at a conference
FedEx -1, internet +1.
Wouldn't it be great though if FedEx offered a service like this? Minus having to send out an email but a socially networked digital delivery company. Maybe the model could allow for members of the network, a niche let's say, to share in the profit of the delivery charges . . . wait this is a bad idea.
Kris -1, internet now is +2.
