I agree Betsy, penultimate is a neat sounding word. It doesn't mean "most excellent" though. It means next to last. Sorry to be a nag. Happy Holidays. Bob

Thanks for reminding me about the donation I will do so now. Sorry it can't be more, just took a much lower paying job. Betsy, keep up your thang it never grows old! And Kris, Betsy just doesn't know yet who rules the roost. She tells a great story, but yours are far fewer but much funnier. Since I grew up similar to you, I think I might adopt your dog-biting story as my own. One of the funniest stories ever on Croncast. Best wishes to both of you!

Hey Roger, Thanks for the comment and the donation! No worries about the amount. The fact that you are giving is cool enough.

Confession time: I have limited donation dollars, and I had decided to put them elsewhere this holiday season (even thought I'm a devout Croncast fan) because I thought the ChildServ thing was really "nice" but not as "necessary" as some of the other causes I support.
That was until I heard Melissa. While the purchases she might make aren't necessary, I'm headed over to Paypal to give ChildServ what I can.
Why? My brother is an autistic adult living in a special needs group home that is the polar opposite of what Melissa has created for her kids.
Today's show hit close to home because it made me realize just how much better his life would be if his staff focused even the tiniest bit on the nice, as well as the necessary.
Glad I got a chance to see the light in time, even though I can't spare as much as I would like.
Thanks for having Melissa on, and keep on rocking it.

Great to hear about Child Serv. Melissa was great. It was fantastic to hear you guys interact and laugh it up with someone else. Someday, I hope to be able to give more...and ChildServ will be first on my list.

I wish I could have given more (that exchange rate's a bitch) because it was really refreshing to hear someone understand there is a difference between keeping kids alive (ie the basics) and helping them become whole/rounded human beings (ie a few 'extras). There's a program here in Aus where you can sponsor a child who's living at/near poverty and though they're at school and being fed there's no $$ for any 'extras' (school excursions, camps, nice books, a gift at Christmas etc). I've been sponsoring a child through that program for a couple of years now DESPITE being told (on many occasions by many people) that it's a waste of money and I should be directing my $$ to an African child. While I know that the African children need help too I can't help everyone and I wanted to give some poor kid a chance to grow up with some of the same kind of nice memories that I have of my childhood. I'm pretty confident that it's going to help her become a better adult than she would otherwise have been and I think that's just as worthy as feeding people.
