Betsy and her husband Kris January 01, 2007

Today's show is brought to you by Bernadette Bean.

Betsy yodels for Bernadette
Our 400th year of Croncast
I'm surprised this isn't an anniversary for you
the 4 millionth minute of Croncast
Any resolutions Beeboo?
I want everyone to be nicer to me . . . that's a wish
Shopping for clothes on December 31 is a great way to start
It'd be nice to wear a smaller size
Shaper things that are for post pregnancy
Is it stomach? Is it thighs? I don't know
Getting the pudding back through the funnel
It is the new age corset . . . Flexees
Nope my wings were still popping up over the top
Asking the sales lady for help
She was old and saggy, she was probably wearing Flexees she had to know her shit
I didn't throw a penny on the floor and ask her to pick it up
The first thing you do is get a full body suit
That is absolutely crazy
If you want extra control
You could sell be at Bobak's if I wore that
It's like an unnatural sausage casing
So goes Betsy so goes the family
Going to be looking for new pants
Kris used to be a size 34 two years ago
Jumped from the train and landed in the pudding
I won't wear a man Flexee
All I got were chubbies by the little Andre Agassi pant ends
That is absolutely horrible
It is rock bottom for the chubster
2006 was the year of excess for us
We did everything to limit this year and we did it with food too
Kris's lunches this year . . . way expensive
Gotta spend the business money
Then buy yourself something that is gonna last
I had to eat, I had to, to keep the tax man away
Kris will ratchet down his lifestyle
We're gonna eat chicken and vegetables everyday
I picked up a veal roast . . . walked around with it . . . thought about the baby in a box . . .and put it back
Can't get into lamb either
I've worked with those little sheep, they are not that cute
You just went cross-eyed what are you looking at?
The beasties that bust loose from your drop ceiling
Gerald Ford conspiracy is afoot
Not to diminish the passing of an individual
James Brown was buried is sparkley shoes . . . Amen
Let's make it a 4 day weekend
The carrots that I am given
Kris is a nocturnal rodent that is kept awake during the day and has to sleep at night
The troll Kris would be if he were single

Yes, James Brown was robbed but then again he robbed my family member who died on Christmas morning.
Matt Lauer wouldnt have been outside the Funeral home for Irving's memorial because he FOR SURE was not wearing red sparkle shoes!
We had a hard enough time getting from the Funeral Home to the cemetary in Queens, NY without a media circus. Although a media circus might have clued some of the idiots in that when cars are driving slowly behind a hearst with their blinkers on - that it is funeral procession(sp?). Cars were actually cutting in the line right behind the hearst!!!
I am right with ya with the weight loss for the new year -- I am approaching it as a healthy eating thing cause cancer is hitting a little too close for comfort and i put way way too much crap in my body. I am first in line for the drivers side BOOT.
sign me right up.

I really liked the discussion about JB vs. GF and who got the coverage. The entire media community seems to have forgotten the breadth of influence the Godfather of Soul had on the US and the world; IMO a much larger influence than that exerted by Ford.

BTW, as a civil servant in the Federal work force I'm happy to have been the recipient of an additional day off work. You cannot underestimate the mourning I am going through today...

Last week in NJ I tried on clothes in the great Macy's that i longingly miss in NE PA. It was a sale day. It wasn't too crazy. I found a few prime items to try on. I then went into the dressing room and saw myself in a different light and angle.
Flourescent and with 3 mirrors to boot.
I sat down and contemplated my life thus far and decided i need to reduce the alarming size of my badunkadunk and run a marathon or something.
Er... yes well something along that idea anyway.

P.S. Reagan died the week my mom did - it really sucks. I feel bad for those who lost loved ones last week. Not that we all need a televised review of our own lives.

P.S.S. It was bad timing for Ford, if he had only held out a few more days...

Hey Kris & Betsy! Happy New Year! I always listen to you guys - you make my day at work go faster :) No point even coming to work if there's no Croncast that day, but I somehow muddle through... haha.

When you talk about losing weight together I think of myself and my husband...We were ChubbyBears (I still am, but getting smaller slowly) but my husband (who used to be 305 lbs) and I got a wakeup call 2 years ago when we saw ourselves in our wedding photos. Not to sound like a plug or anything, but we joined Weight Watchers (It's my 4th and final time!) and my husband lost 140 pounds!!!!!!!!! He now even does races and I am so proud of him. I NEVER thought we'd be 'normal'..haha... I am down more than 30 lbs so far - slower for me of course.... But we are both into it and buy healthy but good foods. It CAN be done. I am 32 an have a couple Sausage Casings-Style-Undergarments which I am not proud of! :) My husband is now going to be featured on an all-new Men's-Only Weight Watchers web site that's coming out soon... Just thought I would share. It's really great if you do it together.

You guys are AWESOME and I really enjoyed the Goodwill Cast of Characters. I went to my Goodwill the other day (looking for a specific item) and couldn't help but notice the characters in there! Classic! I want to go more often and really study them in depth. Happy New Year!

Hey Kris and Betsy:

I have been listening to the show since the Denver Holiday shows and have largely really enjoyed your show.

When I go back to work in a few weeks (less time to listen to podcasts) I have decided to unsubscribe from your show. I feel that in the last couple of months the show has become overly negative.

I am a couple of shows behind this show that i'm posting on but recent examples of negativity from the show are: The Christmas Show. It seemed to me that you spent most of the show complaining about the lady in the Jewellery store rather than sharing your (what sounded like) a great family Christmas. The following episode was spent making disparaging comments (by Betsy this time) about people from Goodwill.

The other gripe I have with the show recently is the obssession with money, possessions and living in the right suburb/driving the right car.

I grew up in a middle-class home where money was not really discussed so I realise I am probably repressed about money.

However at times it seems that (Kris in particular) is giddy with his recent financial success and it has become a bit sickening.

I felt it was fair to give you a bit of feedback as to why I am unsubscribing.

The show seems quite different to the show that I started listening to. You guys seemed more self-deprecating back then and your sense of humour was less about putting other people down.

Thanks for the entertainment over the past few months.

Regards,
Tim Byatt

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the honest feedback. Betsy and I have been talking about what you describe quite often lately. Not quite in the way that you put it but nonetheless we've felt it too.

However, just like anything that one likes in this world sometimes we need to move on, for whatever reason.

We would like to have you continue to listen to the show, we understand your choice and respect it.

What we talk about is our lives. From the very beginning of the show 2 years ago we talked about ourselves, our immediate family, extended family, friends and people from our past. And in general, Betsy, spared us and them nothing. That is what made the shows fun and funny.

Now they all listen and most have put bans in place. Those that haven't, we don't want to hurt with our commentary even though it might not be mean or vicious commmentary, I am not sure how many of them could buy a domain like wiiarefat.com and laugh about it.

And about the 'financial success' topic. True. There is no way for us to talk about money doesn't turn us into assholes except when we were struggling. Which isn't to say that we won't struggle in the future.

My great year was like going into a White Hen (inside joke for long time listeners), buying a scratch off lottery ticket and winning. And who wouldn't talk about that if they were doing three shows a week for the last six months?

Possibly, putting our break off until March wasn't such a good idea but that is when we plan on taking a break.

Cheers,

Kris

The show is about your lives, indeed, and there's nothing wrong with talking about what's going on in your lives. No one gets to judge you because your years of hard work paid off.
There's also nothing wrong with your cast of characters, Betsy. Thank you for it. You have nothing to feel guilty about. You didn't say anything terribly disparaging about any of those people. You were, as you always do, telling the people about your life. And we all do something similar. I don't know my neighbors' names; in my head they're the hunchback and the lesbian. And to them I'm probably that fat bitch that lives in back.
So maybe I'm too candid, but I hate it when people get honesty and truth mixed up with being mean. You haven't made up lies about people or said anything malicious; you've only ever described the goings on of the day. And I, for one, LOVE IT.
I said once before that I needed to hear what you had to say, and that is true more often than I say it. I really think that people feel less alone in this world when they hear you guys describe things similar to what they've gone through.
Keep up the good work.

dont ever change mr. puffycuffs! as you have said before -- this is a snippit of you lives. this show in now way can possibly reflect how you truely are 24/7 IRL.
I love everything you talk about -- makes me feel like my life isnt that bad (which it isnt really very nice to feel good about yourself based on someone elses misfortune - ie:the vacation shows)and you guys also remind me to laugh at the things that seem so dang important or horrible at the time. Looking back at the day about 35 years ago, even the day that I broke my arm is now a funny story!

i am going to be lost without you guys in march -- i feel like saving up my shows now.

I LOVE listening to your shows and I think they have gotten better - not more negative as Tim suggests. Your show has honestly helped me in a lot of ways. It is so refreshing to hear from people that I've never met but with whom I can relate so well. I am the mom of two - a 6 year old and a 9 month old - struggling with post-baby weight, nursing and balancing work with home. I have been married to my best friend for ten years this past October and my birthday is November 8th. My husband and I have struggled financially and are moving in the right direction. Listening to your show has helped me see that there are so many like me - trying to do their best day to day and have a little fun along the way. You guys are a highlight during my week and I'm so glad I found your podcast while searching for information about breastfeeding.

I'm really going to miss you during March. Would you consider releasing some past shows on the feed - maybe from the very beginning - so we wont have to go without??

Thanks again for making the time to do the show. I look forward to it every Mon - Wed - Fri!!

Laura

I love love love the idea of the re-release of early shows. I get you guys through Itunes, so it would be super-cool if there were some original episodes in there.
Thank you guys for what you do!

Don't go changing to try and please him...Hey was there a song about that?
